Camille Saint Saens' piano concerto no. 2 opus 22
Dvorak's New World Symphony
Created in 1976, the National orchestra of Lille has embarked on an ambitious artistic project initiated by Jean-Claude Casadesus and aimed at all audiences. Upon the invitation of the director, international conductors and soloists join the National orchestra of Lille to, in his words, "bring music to wherever it can be heard". Thus, the National orchestra of Lille has become, after thirty five years in existence, a genuine ambassador for its region and French Culture across four continents and in more than thirty countries (China, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Russia, Germany, Slovakia etc.).
Directed by: Jean-Claude Casadesus
Having been trained by two masters, Pierre Dervaux and Pierre Boulez, JC Casadesus was appointed musical director of the Châtelet theatre in 1965. In 1969, he was appointed permanent conductor at the Paris Opera and Opéra-Comique. He was subsequently involved in the creation of the Pays de la Loire Orchestra for which he was deputy director until 1976, when he created the national orchestra of Lille (ONL). Under his leadership, the ONL was able to convey its extensive repertoire, dynamism and artistic project quality throughout the world. At the same time, he enjoyed an international career, invited by orchestras in Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City, Baltimore, Montreal, London, Paris, Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Singapore, Sinfonia Varsovia, the Gulbenkian Foundation or Berliner Symphoniker etc. Also very active in the opera domain, he conducted productions in Monte-Carlo and Trieste, in the Aix-en-Provence and Orange festivals, at the Paris Orchestra, the Flanders Opera and of course the Lille Opera. Later, he was guest conductor in Moscow, Saint-Petersburg and Prague. Thirty recordings made when he was head of the ONL earned him several awards.
Piano: Bertrand Chamayou
A native of Toulouse, Bertrand Chamayou has emerged as a prominent figure on the French musical scene over the past few years. This protean and elusive artist excels in the so-called "virtuoso" repertoire as well as more enigmatic works with a difficult or experimental musical reputation, making any restrictive attempt to define boundaries between his many different talents impossible. With around thirty concertos under his belt, a range of prestigious collaborations and a Victoire de la Musique classique award in 2006, Bertrand Chamayou already boasts an impressive résumé.
